Background clearance and fingerprinting

Students discussing class lecture

All students admitted into the undergraduate teacher preparation, Master in Teaching (M.I.T.) and add-on endorsement programs must receive background clearance.

Clearance requires completion of the Pre-Residency Clearance (for certification programs), fingerprinting and proof of liability insurance. For the Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master in Teaching programs, contact Dan Overbay at for the appropriate forms and instructions. For add-on endorsement programs, contact Jennifer Gallagher at

Fingerprint clearance can be obtained from an educational service district or a police department. If you have your prints taken at your local law enforcement office you will need to bring a prepared fingerprint card with you. To request a card contact Student Services.
