Special Education Endorsement

The Special Education (SpEd) endorsement is offered in the Education department on the WSU Vancouver campus. The endorsement consists of 9 required courses plus 4 credits of practicum for a total of 31 credits. Students pursuing this endorsement will take the classes online through WSU Online. Occasionally, some courses may be offered through our multi-campus Academic Media Services (AMS ) with electronically linked classrooms across the state.

Please note: courses taken online are charged tuition based on the tuition rates of WSU Online Degree Programs. Tuition rates and other information may be found at http://online.wsu.edu/. Students living the the Portland metro area will not be able to utlitize the Border Bill for online courses.

  • SpEd 301 Education of Exceptional Children (taken first) *
  • SpEd 401/501 Teaching Students with Disabilities *
  • SpEd 402/502 Assessment & Curriculum for Students with Disabilities *
  • SpEd 403/503 Secondary Education for Students with Disabilities Education
  • SpEd 404/504 Professional Skills in Special Education
  • SpEd 409/509 Early Childhood Special Education
  • SpEd 421/521 Inclusion Strategies for Special Education Teachers
  • SpEd 440/540 Methods in Intensive Educational Supports
  • SpEd 470/571 Assessment & Instruction in Reading
  • SpEd 490/590 Practicum in Special Education *

*These courses meet course requirements for the Pre Endorsement Waiver. The waiver is issued by the hiring school district and allows recipients to teach Primary - 12th grade students with disbilities as long as remaining endorsement classes are completed within 5 years of issuance.
