Science Endorsement

To qualify for endorsement in Science, the candidate must complete the following requirements in additon to the course work required for an endorsement in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics.

Required Endorsement Classes

  • Chem 105 or 115 Principles of Chemistry I (115 is Honors)
  • Chem 106 or 116 Principles of Chemistry II (116 is Honors)
  • Chem 345 Organic Chemistry
  • Phys 101 or 201 General Physics or Physics for Science and Engineering
  • Phys 102 or 202 General Physics or Physics for Science and Engineering (continued)
  • Biol 106 Introductory Biology: Organismal Biology
  • Biol 107 Introductory Biology: Cell Biology and Genetics
  • PhysS/Biol 430 Methods of Teaching Science

Plus one 3-4 credit Astronomy elective 1

Plus two courses from the following:
  • Geol 102 Physical Geology
  • Geol 210 Evolution and Earth History

Plus one course from the following:

  • Psych 311 Elementary Statistics in Psychology
  • Stats 212 Introduction to Statistical Methods
  • Stats 412 Biometry

Plus one course from the following:

  • Hist 381 Science in Western Civilization through Newton
  • Hist 382 Science in Western Civilization from Newton to Einstein
  • Hist 483 Technology and Social Change to 1950
  • Soc 430 Society and Technology
  • U H 410 Doman of the Sciences

1 Astr 390 The Night Sky will not meet requirement

Endorsements designate the subject matter an individual is authorized to teach. The above requirements are for the teaching endorsement only and do not necessarily fulfill the requirements for a major/minor. The student is responsible for all course prerequisites.
